Before embarking on any marriage, as Catholics, we need to marry in a Catholic church. Before we are able to marry in a Catholic church, we need to go through a series of Marriage Preparation courses, starting with the Engaged Encounter.
By right, the Engaged Encounter is normally attended when one is already planning a wedding. However, in our case, we took the advise of the priest to attend it before we even talk about getting married. Further due to 2020 being a strange year, we had to do this online instead of in person, and we were not able to log in together at the same location.
Well, we had talked of marriage. In fact, ever since we started dating officially more than a year back, we both had the consensus that this will end up in marriage. After all, I am no longer young and I do not want to be in another relationship only to end up wasting my time and getting all hurt and upset again.
Hence, the Engaged Encounter. We thought it would be a good idea to go through this before we even make further plans, as in the event we realise we are all wrong for each other, we could still call it quits, even if it would pain me to death.
However, after attending this, it only reaffirms that this time, my choice is right! I never realise just how compatible, how right, how perfect we are for each other until now! What I like about the Engaged Encounter is that after every presentation, we need to answer a series of questions. We had to answer the questions individually with no discussion. We would be given time to answer, and after the time was up, we would rejoin our partners and have a couple discussion.
We were each given a set of notes and told to write down the answers. In this way, we can be blatantly honest and tell each other everything on paper, things which we may find it hard to tell each other face to face. Hence, by doing this, we know if we are of the same mind.
What I am happy is that we are of the same mind, since our answers are mostly similar! I can never imagine anyone else with such same values and expectations as I have! Now I am totally convinced I have made the right choice! We have definitely grown closer after this weekend, and I can safely say I feel assured to leave my life in his hands!
